The Peasant and the Ego

The humility of the soul is the ultimate harvester of human connection. Without it, the longing for authentic joy fades under the weight of ill-perceived significance. Nature provides subtle clues of this virtue when one of greater dominion observes the thriving of one of seemingly lesser rank.
The ant observed the tall tree with a wonderous moment of fascination aspiring to possess the tree's branches as arms and its roots as legs. It knew to stay out of the way of its crushing presence as it scurried ahead with a buxom crumb between its, almost obscure, scaly jaws. The tree sighed and gazed through its tawny limbs to observe the scurrying ant, envying its freedom. (C .Sexton)
When the allure of humility falls on a blind soul, its exposure to the ego renders its host helpless until it agrees to surrender to the process of the collective, for that is where 'home' can be found. Refusal to return home results in humility's inevitable eradication by an ego turned against itself.
In this image we see one standing at a precipice with a choice to make. What do you think that choice is? How does the consideration of one's significance play a part?
