Just Like You - Self Bereavement

Just Like You

I didn’t say anything because I knew you wouldn’t hear

I didn’t go anywhere because I knew you wouldn’t stay

I picked my flesh apart as you searched for the profane

but when you finished, I was still the same.

I knew you wouldn’t slap me on the back, so I put up a good front.

I knew you wouldn’t dry my tears, so I never cried, I lied,

“Oh yeah,” “mmm hum,” “you’re right,” “I’m sorry,”

Nodded my head so much I died.

I knew you’d never see me, so I closed my eyes.

I knew you wanted my soul, the one hidden in plain sight.

I wanted to kick your ass to make you understand

that I could take a stand...Even though I wasn’t a man.

But I knew you wouldn’t care so now I guess I can

or maybe.

I’m...just...like...you.
